January 2024 saw the start to Gareth hosting is first in the series “The Joy of Woodworking” - an in depth exploration into the day in the life of a cabinetmaker. He guided four inexperienced woodworkers to create a breadbox - They took a rough board of quartersawn oak and transformed into a beautiful breadbox to take home over the course of 6 hours. His entire arsenal of woodworking machinery and tools were used - from the table saw to the router table to the thicknesser to the bandsaw then all finished off with hand tools. Curated by studio resident and Artist Darren Nisbet.
Darren asked artists to respond to the title ‘This Land’. It was fascinating to see such a range of work coming in. We held an opening night, where people could come and speak to some of the artists. The exhibition then ran for a week.
Artist submitted work from all over the country.
After last years beautiful Summer Soltice dinner, we were super chuffed to have Issy and the team back from Season’s Eatings. This time we were inside Elle’s Photo studio for the dinner and guests were treated to a welcome drink from Isca Wine’s and were able to have a walk around Gareth’s woodshed whilst chatting to Issy while she prepared the dinner. The table was dressed by Elle, with a table cloth being made for the events and seasonal flowers picked from Gareth’s Mums garden. Extra surprise courses were added by Issy, the feel in the studio was really warm and the conversation flowed. We served wine from Isca and beers from Track Brewery.
We LOVE ramen so we opened up our woodshop and turned it into a ramen joint. God lord it was good! OTB lovingly tended over and made the broth and the skills of LORCAN KAN (things palace) headed up the rest - Braised pork neck, burned kale, flash fried chilli sauce, pickled green onion with ginger. 48 guests had the finest 48hr Tonkotsu broth, handmade noodles and 63 degree eggs washed down with Track, Sonoma beer and natural wine from Isca Wines. OTB held a chopstick making workshop where guests handmade their own utensils whilst Lorcan - in between serving 48 guest - demoed the technique of hand pulling noodles.
WE WILL DO THIS AGAIN!! WATCH OUT FOR IT ON INSTAGRAM from Isca W
2018 summer solstice took us to a land of 5 course delights including Smoked Hogget, chard glazed lettuce, pickles, smoked eel and glorious honey cake with ice cream brought to us by the culinary talents of SEASON’S EATINGS. We had 24 guests dine outside in our yard under the fading summer sun with the smell of barbecue in the air and good tunes and super tasty eatings.

We host draw clubs - Usually in local bars and cafes however for this special event we were lucky to be invited to host one at HOME MCR in their theater as part of PUSH FESTIVAL. We had access to their costume department and the participants were the models. A whole heap of fun was had by all - Look out for an ON THE BRINK draw club near you!
